Abstract

Fostering entrepreneurial skills among youth has become national priority, especially in India which is a growing nation. To make effective policies, it is important for the policymakers to have an understanding of mindset and potentially the attitude of youth towards entrepreneurship. This is possible by conducting researches to evaluate the attitude with concerned scales. However, the majority of scales are influenced by western culture thereby do not capture the reality. This calls for the construction of an instrument to measure the attitude towards entrepreneurship of Indian youth. This study deals with developing a new scale on attitude towards entrepreneurship and establishing its reliability and psychometric properties. A pilot study was conducted in 2 tryouts with 30 and 50 university students respectively, using a 45-item likert scale. First tryout dealt with qualitative checks on clarity, flow and difficulty in understanding of items, along with response pattern. In second tryout, on the basis of mean, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis, item-rest correlation, and Cronbach’s α if item, is deleted for each item in the draft scale, decision was taken for acceptance or rejection of the items. This study found a high Cronbach’s α (0.936) of final scale of 35 items.
