Organizational Role Stress: Difference Among Teachers Across Gender

Abstract

The study investigates organizational role stress across gender lines. 453 college teachers (Males=251, Females=202) selected through stratified random sampling were administered Organizational Role Stress Scale (Pareek,1983). Comparison between male and female teachers was worked out on total organizational role stress score and its ten components by applying t-test. The results revealed that male teachers experienced significantly higher organizational stress in terms of role erosion and resource inadequacy than their comparable female counterparts. The results are discussed in the perspective of gender specificity and changing face of modern higher education. The findings further insinuate the need for periodic assessment and identification of potential stressors in the organizational life of teachers and to evolve coping strategies to deal with them.
