An Empirical Investigation of Procrastination and Altruism among University Students

Abstract

Present study is intended to study procrastination and altruism among university students. The sample comprised of 170 Punjabi University students (85 males and 85 females), between the age of 22 and 26 years. The general procrastination scale – for students by Lay (1986) and self-report altruism scale by Khanna, Singh and  Rushton (1993) were used for collection of data. Statistical analyses was performed with the SPSS 15.0 package. Results showed that procrastination is significantly related to altruistic behavior. Non-procrastinators scored higher on altruism as compared to procrastinators. However, females in comparison to males reported higher altruistic behavior.
