Negative affectivity and social inhibition in chronic low back pain patients
Abstract
Low back pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder affecting 80% of people at some point in their lives. It accounts for more sick leave and disability than any other medical condition. It can be either acute, sub acute or chronic in duration. Low back pain is considered chronic if it persists for six months. The study is based on the premise that the social inhibition and negative affectivity may be found co jointly (Type-D behaviour pattern) in CLBP patients. The present research investigated negative affectivity and social inhibition in chronic low back pain patients Hindi adaptation of Type D Scale (D S 14) by Verma and Khan (2006) was administered to 50 male and 50 female CLBP patients as well as 50 males and 50 females of control group individually after establishing adequate rapport with them. It was found that CLBP patients had a high level of negative affectivity and social inhibition referred to as Type-D behaviour pattern.
